Safety & Health

Public Safety

Andrews ParkThe Andrews Volunteer Fire Department has existed for over 58 years. During that time the department established an enviable record for its professionalism and dedication with its expertise in fighting oil field fires as well as structural firefighting. The department also provides top-notch rescue services for any rescue situation that might occur in or around Andrews County. The members of the department take great pride in the quality of service provided to the entire community.

Andrews ParkThe department also maintains a hazardous materials response trailer. The trailer is equipped with level A, level B, and level C personal protective gear. Decontamination equipment for use on emergency response personnel and civilian victims is also carried on the trailer. The department has 10 members that have been trained for hazmat response with continuing update training while other members of the department are being trained for hazmat response. The department's primary focus in hazmat responses is for the safety of the civilian public as well as emergency responders. The department can contain small to moderate hazmat releases and mutual aid response from the City of Odessa Fire Department's hazmat team for larger incidents is available. The department boasts one of the best response times for a volunteer fire department in the state and compares well with paid departments. The City and County of Andrews have a Mutual-Aid Agreement with 17 surrounding West Texas Counties as a part of the Council of Governments (COG) of the Permian Basin Regional Planning Commission (PBRPC)

Andrews ParkThe City of Andrews Police Department and the Andrews County Sheriff's Office oversee public safety of Andrews County. Since the City of Andrews is the only city in Andrews County, the two entities work closely together ensuring the public safety of both the city and county is well served, maintaining the low crime rate that places Andrews in the lowest 10% of the 77 communities of comparable size in Texas. There are 11 Andrews County Sheriff and Sheriff's Deputies, 16 City of Andrews Police Officers, and 19 EMS professionals (All City of Andrews Police Officers are cross-trained as certified EMS professionals)
